The Carpenters Daughter has a 30 year long legacy of supporting New Zealand manufacturing and making clothing.
We purchase all of our fabrics, labels and tags exclusively through New Zealand suppliers, and make 100% in New Zealand. All of our makers, cutters and suppliers sit within a 6-30km radius of our office and flagship store in Point Chevalier, Auckland, keeping freight and delivery distances to an absolute minimum and reduces our overall carbon footprint.
We ensure all of our makers, machinists and suppliers are paid fairly for their work (the New Zealand minimum wage is $20), and have safe and fair working conditions through visits to the facilities as we move along through production. We are committed to producing exclusively in New Zealand to help our local manufacturing industry thrive and ensure jobs don't move entirely overseas.
Where we can, we use natural fabrics such as Cotton, Linen, Viscose, Tencel and Cupro, doing our best to choose fabrics which will stand the test of time and work beautifully for the style. To allow us to move freely and easily in those tighter jersey pieces, some fabrics will contain spandex to allow the fabric to return to its natural state without sagging. If you can, please wash these garments in a microfibre bag to reduce the flow of microfibres into our waterways.
Thank you for considering sustainability.
